Training Protocol

  1. Training should be mainly on a 'Need to Know' basis and should fit in with staff job descriptions.
  2. Specialist training could be available for particular areas of an individual's work, e.g. NVQ for carers without qualifications.
  3. Staff training needs should be mainly identified and monitored through the in-house supervision process.
  4. The organisation will run its own formal training programme that will geared to the needs of its staff. Attendance at other training courses will be encouraged.
  5. Managers will put staff names forward for training and staff must attend these sessions.
  6. Time in lieu will be given to senior staff or Management, Junior staff get paid at their normal rate of pay (which depends on the unit they work on).
  7. Each home will have its own in-house induction for new employees.
  8. Each training session will have time for feedback.
  9. There will be a list of staff attending all sessions which will be signed by staff and trainer.
  10. The training co-ordinator will keep individuals training cards to show to the Inspectorate.
  11. There will be an evaluation form which will be filled in at the end of each session by staff attending.
