Mentaur aims 'to provide a high quality service to all service users'. It can only do so when every member of staff is fully equipped and confident in undertaking his/her duties. In a rapidly changing world this can only be achieved through a process of regular support and training.
Mentaur also values each individuals' contribution and ensures all staff have an equal opportunity to develop to their full potential. Managers need to meet staff on a regular basis to ensure that each individual's skills and experience is fully used and that their career development needs are both recognised and encouraged.
Mentaur also regularly monitors and reviews the quality of its services. This will be achieved through setting standards are not only maintained but improved upon. Regular meetings between managers and staff are an important way of developing, maintaining and reviewing quality standards.
The above are some of the reasons why Mentaur takes staff supervision very seriously.
Some recent reports highlight other reasons why we ignore staff supervision at our peril, e.g.: 'It comes as no surprise that lack of, or inadequate supervision is still cited in recent SSI and inquiry reports as a factor in the poor practice thathave been uncovered in some residential homes' (Chris Payne, Community Care 1992).
