Lavanda Villa

Lavanda Villa is a small specialist autism unit designed to provide adults with autistic spectrum disorders, learning disabilities and epilepsy with a home which complies with their needs and understands their singularity. The house has been set up to ensure that the staff team are able to assist users of service in achieving their personal goals in a supportive and autism-friendly environment. The philosophy is to encourage family style living in conjunction with an enabling and person-centered approach and culture. The home is currently undergoing an accreditation process with the National Autistic Society.

The environment in which a person with autism lives can have a major impact on their well being. We are aware of the sensory difficulties faced by people with autism. Along with a sense of space and special sensory features, the environment is of a proportion and scale consonant with ordinary domestic living.

The house provides four large single bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. The home also offers an activities room to be tailored according to the users of service needs and interests. There is a large kitchen leading on to a spacious walled garden. The home provides high quality furniture and fittings.

Lavanda Villa is situated in the heart of Kempston town in Bedford, adjacent to shops and diverse community facilities, including a beautiful and large park, easily and safely accessible through the rear of the house. Bedford is within easy reach of London, Luton, Kettering and Wellingborough by rail and Northampton by road.

As an individualized service, Lavanda Villa promotes independence by supporting transition, which enables people to have informed choices and control over their lives wherever possible and we believe in the ethos of person-centered care.

Lavanda Villa provides a service for adults of either sex seeking to improve their independent living skills who will be encouraged to aim to move on to more independent forms of living.  For those unable or unwilling to do so the home is able to provide a medium or long term care service.

A full day opportunities service is available to all service users who are not engaged otherwise.
