About Us

Mentaur, a service provider for people with learning disabilitiy and mental disorder, was born in the 1980s, grew in and contributed to this backdrop of change. The organisation has embraced the cause of this diverse group of individuals in myriad ways. From providing residential and Day Care services to community awareness and most recently, to developing for the 21st century, an educational, and training and research programme in this crucial area of need. In its core areas, by providing relevant activity, gentle teaching and access to mainstream services in the community, Mentaur has helped these individuals to realise their fullest possible potential. A significant proportion of this group present with behaviour which appears challenging to the man on the street; Mentaur has tried particularly to help by trying to discover the true causes and genesis of such behaviour, by understanding and empathising with the frustrations which often underpin such behaviour. The measure of positive change in the individuals under its umbrella is a measure of Mentaur's determination and commitment to the future of the learning disabled.
