Welcome to Mentaur News. In this 2009 edition we decided to try a different look. It's been over a year now since I've been looking after the compilation and design of this news magazine and it felt right to celebrate this first year with a little change to the layout! It certainly took much longer to prepare, but it also helped me realise how much I love compiling this magazine!

I must say that without everyone's co-operation at Mentaur I wouldn't be able to bring this publication to life. Specially service users, who, without hesitation, are always letting me into their worlds and providing me with endless inspiration, for which I'll always be thankful.

Much has happened since the last edition; for starters I missed the opportunity to wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy 2009.

Also, as you may already know, the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) ceased to exist on 31st March 2009 to give way to the Care Quality Commission (CQC), which is the new health and social care regulator for England, as of 1st April 2009.

Special Olympics 2009

Additionally, I thought I'd mention that Leicester will be the host for the 2009 Special Olympics from July 25th to 31st. Reading through Leicester's City Council website, I found  that the games will feature around 21 different sports in various  facilities and that the opening ceremony for the games will take place at the Walkers Stadium. I'll do my best to bring you news about the outcome in the next issue. In the meantime please  enjoy this edition of Mentaur News.

Signed: Loreto x
